Early this morning we were looking out the kitchen window at our cows. They all were staring up the hill towards the eastern timberline. After watching for a few moments we saw three female deer followed by a buck with a large rack. David went to get his rifle as I watched him chasing the girls.
One of the reasons we bought land was to be able to hunt and enjoy the wildlife on our farm. We never waste the meat making sure any we can’t use goes to a family that will use it. The entire 15 years we have been here we have seen bucks on our land but usually at night (by camera). We tend to harvest a doe each year. Today however David was able to take one shot and bring down this big guy. He and Little Man went searching for it and as the story goes, “daddy found the blood trail but I found the deer mama! That’s the most important job, kinda? right mom?”
I’m grateful David had the chance to do something he enjoys for the first time since Millie’s diagnosis. I’m grateful to hear the excitement and see the joy on his face again. I’m grateful that Little Man has a daddy who lets him help out.
Blessings sweet friends…
