Ten years ago, David was offered the opportunity to work for a company that has Christian owners. This company values good character in their employees and recognizes it. They give presentation awards based on that character. David has been recognized many times, which I appreciate. I believe it is a benefit when someone will praise you for the things they think you are doing right. Last night we were treated to the annual Christmas dinner.
We got to enjoy our time with 3 of our older children and our daughter’s guy friend. Our table was filled with people I love!
We have made many friends within the company over the years. A few have even become like our family. As I looked around at other tables, they too held these people I love.
People who have covered us with prayer, gifts, foods, and support over the last few years.
People who cared about Millie.
People who went out of their way to bring her happiness in the last year of her life.
We are so very grateful!
As we came into the building the photographer took our family photo. Next we enjoyed the light reception before the doors opened. After finding our seat, we had a delicious meal, visited with many friends, and enjoyed the Christmas music. As dinner ended, they began recognizing each group of employees for their commitment to long-term employment at the company… 5 years… 10 years (David!) … 15… 20… 40… and then they recognize one of the owners for 50 years of service in the company. He came to the company and began employment as he married the founder’s daughter (Hope I got that right?).
The presentation of his award was a blessing to hear. To see how others perceive and honor this man was very encouraging. One of his sons presented his first character trait, speaking about how his father’s work ethic affected him all through his growing years. Next our former pastor and finally another longtime friend each spoke about his character qualities. These men have had a profound impact on both David and I through the years. I am grateful for the ways they have invested in our family.
We made it home late, slept in and just had a relaxing Saturday. I washed our clothes and as I took my skirt from the dryer I found a white feather clinging to my skirt. Many of you may have read the sweet story of the child in heaven asking Santa to help his mom know he is still close to her? In this story he and Santa agree to leave a white feather to remind his mama of his love. It is a comforting thought to a grieving parent, though I don’t personally think it is accurate. I don’t believe Millie is here or leaves me signs, but I do believe when ‘out of the ordinary things’ happen they are a comfort because they bring her to my mind. They allow my heart to think on her and smile. So, I will embrace this white feather as a sweet reminder of my little girl in heaven.
