Is it time to go to my hospital yet?
I like my hospital, mom.
Will I see my friends today?
There are so many fun things to do at the hospital. I get to pet the dogs that come to my room to
visit. Sometimes I am scared, but they
never jump on me. Their people give me
cards with the dog’s name and picture on them.
Do you remember all the fun parties we had mom? We went to that carnival with the clown, and
popcorn, and games. We ate a funnel cake
together. We didn’t stay very long for
that party since I didn’t feel good that night.
The next party was fun though. Coffee
and doughnut night. I got an iced coffee
(but I thought it was yucky!). I also
got lots of yummy doughnuts. I love the
chocolate ones with sprinkles. The best
party was that Christmas party where we wore our red pajamas out to the waiting
room. It looked so pretty with a huge tree and lots of fun stuff on the walls. We made those big houses with candy and white
frosting. I ate a lot of candy that day!
Sometimes when I get bored between treatments, we go on a
walk around the hospital. Down the
stairs, up the stairs, through the hallways, out to the roof top playground,
through the tunnel and back. All that
walking makes me tired! (I wonder if
that’s why we go?)
Remember that day my friend brought her white horse to the
hospital to see me? The horse had purple
hair! It was so funny to see a horse
standing in the waiting room. All the
other children peeked out of their rooms to see my guest. We invited them out to meet Velvet too. My
friend even gave me a little white stuffed pony to remember Velvet. That was fun!
A few times I got to go out to the Lego Parties that the “K
Club” brings. There are big tables with
so many Lego boxes stacked on them. They
have a table for the little kids and a table for the ‘big’ kids like me. Mommy
tried to get me to choose baby Legos, but I picked a big girl set. The Lego Lady sat on the floor and read me a
story about a Cuddly Bear. I really like
her. On the table were huge yellow Lego heads that open up. I liked them so
much I grabbed one and filled it up with bracelets. When it got time to leave I had to give the
head back. I guess they were the party decorations.
Even though this hospital has owie stuff, it has lots of fun
stuff too. I like to come to my
hospital.
****This is written from the perspective of
Amelia “Millie” as a two-year-old during her yearlong hospital treatment for
cancer. Diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroblastoma, she bravely fought for her
life. We are so grateful to the many
organizations both in and out of the hospital that gave her joy over the last
365 days of life. Please support the
organizations that help these kids. ****
Spreading awareness for the sake of the
children.
~Because of Millie~
Blessings sweet friends…
