I started early shopping for the perfect birthday gift.
I added a few things to my Amazon cart but quickly removed them.
Nothing seemed as nice as I wanted. It also seemed like a lot of money to be spent on a disposable gift.
I briefly wondered if anyone would care about the gift I bought? Would it even be noticed...probably not.
You see tomorrow is a special birthday in our family.
There will be no party...
No one will arrive bearing pretty wrapped packages...
We won’t eat cake or ice cream...
We won’t take happy birthday photos...
...but we will still go visit the cemetery.
Tomorrow is Millie’s 5th birthday.
Tomorrow we will take her birthday banner to her grave and hang it. We might stop and buy a big #5, but then again we might not.
This 5th year won’t bring about starting school, lose teeth, or riding a bike with no training wheels. Nothing other five year olds do...
It will just bring the reminder that although we are one day farther from holding our girl, we are also one day closer from embracing her again.
Blessings sweet friends…
