We arrived safely on Bald Head Island off the coast of North Carolina today. What a great start to a refreshing retreat.
In 2020 we were offered a trip to a Lighthouse Family Retreat in Florida. It is a trip for kids with cancer and their families to recharge and be normal. Millie’s trip was canceled due to Covid, the same time they told us her tumors were growing.
When retreats opened back up this year, a few of our friends from the hospital were able to go. We were no longer able to go after Millie passed. However in 2019, they had started a new type of retreat week called “Sunset” retreats. These weeks are for families who have lost a child. We were invited to attend.
After driving 3 days cross country, we arrived to board the ferry this afternoon. The trip took about 20 minutes across the bay, then we unloaded and road a tram to our home for the week. There are no cars, only golf carts here. Each house also has bicycles available for use.
We were placed in a beautiful 2 story home in a tropical lush jungle (with better high speed internet that our farm).
We look forward to a week of fun, sun, water and fellowship with other families who have lost their child to cancer also. There is just a sense of belonging...
