Bald Head Island Sunset Retreat {Day 3}
Pouring rain started our day again this morning. We have had two days of areal flood warnings to hit the island. The kids had another fun morning at “FlipFlop” the kids camp. They went to the island nature conservatory to learn about the island animals. David and I attended “Common Ground” with the other loss parents.
Lunch was in the Country Club dining room. Then at 3 pm, we decided to take the kids to the beach in-spite of the rain. As soon as we stepped into the sand, the rain stopped, the sun came out and a beautiful rainbow appeared.
This evening’s dinner was Italian, followed by Praise and Worship as a group. Between the praise songs each family took turns going up and telling about their child.
David, I, and SJ all shared about Millie. Little man said he couldn’t because it would make him cry. We shed a few tears but shared more laughs as we described what a true JOY Millie was to our family.
We told of little green boots, tractor rides, and farm days. We shared of hospital stays, playing hide and seek in the nurses station, and climbing all the hospital stairs every time possible. We reminisced of chicken dances, smoochie lip selfies, and “Oh yeah! Oh yeah” being a favorite saying.
We laughed about her grand announcement every time we arrived at the hospital, “I HOME to my hospital!”
We also teared up as we remembered her last time when she no longer wanted to be at her hospital, rather asking daddy, “Take me home daddy. I want to go home.”
We were blessed to share our girl and the joy she brought our family during her 3.5 years on this earth. Our hearts are filled with gratitude for the gift of having Millie in our lives.
Blessings sweet friends…
