A portal to life

 

This is my personal FB memory from May 7, 2020. The hearts of children are so pure and they see things we adults often forget with age. May their hearts ever be focused on truth.

“We have a book series that I have read with all my kids. Usually in sets of threes. Oldest, middles, and now youngest. This series chronicles the life of the Miller family. Tonight we ready one story from “School Days with the Millers”. Little did I remember that this book had a school child dying of cancer. It talked of trusting God, being healed in heaven, and peace.

Watching the kids face as I read, I knew it was hitting SJ heavily. Even Little Man quickly brought up Millie. SJ looked thoughtful for a moment and said, “if you are a believer and trust God’s salvation, then Death is just a portal to life”. SJ has such a way with her words. She also intently listens to and understands the audio books we let her listen too. This phrase came from another GA Henty book, but the thought that she can adequately apply it often surprises me. I’m grateful for these talking opportunities with the kids. It gives an opportunity to delve deep into their hearts

Nurses week

 We had many wonderful nurses and I would love to name each one. Just because I don’t call you by name never think your touch didn’t matter. What a blessing YOU were during our cancer walk. Oh how you loved our girl and loved her well. Putting up with tantrums, playing hide and seek, letting her wear your jewelry, so many precious memories.

One moment and nurse that stands out in my mind is Ashleigh. She was given the task of helping us make footprints and handprints when we were told Millie would die. She cheerfully made it fun for Millie as they painted everything pink. The gift she gave us is priceless. I can only imagine her broken heart as she watched this child she too loved, dying.

Hem/Oc nurses are a special breed. You are BRAVE, SMART, and STRONG...even when your knees buckle and you feel weak.

Thank you OU Children’s Hem/Oc nursing staff. You are loved!
